PERSONNEL
Teachers’ Responsibilities, Duties, Code of Ethics
Teachers in the Catholic school system are a vital part of the environment of the school and responsible to add to the atmosphere of faith and charity. Every principal should discuss this matter with each prospective teacher before he/she is hired or rehired.
All teachers in the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Belleville must be actively participating in the Catechist Certification Program and be actively involved in professional improvement annually. They are to have an annual professional growth and development plan.
The plan is to be approved by the principal and kept on file in the local school. Each teacher will discuss the plan with the principal at the beginning of each academic semester and again at the conclusion of the year.
The Plan will include three goals for professional growth and development. Goals are to be articulated in each of the following areas:
1. Catechist Certification and development
2. Effective teaching
3. Technology or another approved area
Activities will be stated for attaining each goal. These activities may include classes, workshops, graduate course work, observations, peer consultation, mentoring, videos, approved reading and other activities approved by the principal. At least twenty-four (24) contact/clock hours toward the attainment of the specified goals must be documented annually, or an accumulated total of 120 contact/clock hours over a five-year (5) period of time. A minimum of six (6) hours is required in each of the three goal areas.
A copy of the completed form will be sent to the Office of Education and placed in each teacher file at the end of each academic year.
