Sacramental Records Request
Sacramental registers are retained at the parish. Individuals in search of one's own sacramental record from an active parish should contact that parish directly to obtain the record. Certificates can only be issued for sacramental or legal purposes.
Certificates of record an only be issued to (a) the individual requesting his/her record, (b) the legal guardian if under 21 years old, or (c) church personnel for sacramental purposes. If you are requesting someone else's record, please call us at (618) 722-5057. Requests made by government or corporate agencies (e.g. Social Security Administration, immigration, insurance companies, etc) must be accompanied by an Authorization for Release of information signed by the person (or the person's legally qualified guardian) whose record is being requested.
The Archives of the Diocese of Belleville normally assume custody of sacramental records once a parish is suppressed (closed). There are a few exceptions were the registers of a closed or merged parish are retained at another parish. A complete list is available on a separate page. Payment and identification
Sacramental certificates are $10 each and will be mailed within 5-10 business days. Certificates will be sent via regular mail unless otherwise requested. Payment may be made via cash, credit card or check.
