Schools that have been found to have or are assumed to have asbestos containing materials in school buildings are to follow the guidelines and procedures set up by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Environmental Protection Agency. Please note: Even if you have a “new building or addition” you are not exempt from sampling any materials that might be impacted such as walls (even to hang photos, etc.) and ceilings. Prior to impacting any building materials please contact the Environmental Consultant.
All asbestos information must be kept on file in the school office along with the Asbestos Management Plan. Periodic inspections of the building must take place by the Environmental Consulting firm contracted by the Diocese. The inspections will take place approximately every 6 months. Once every 3 years a larger scale inspection will take place (this large scale inspection will replace the appropriate 6 month inspection). When a Catholic School in the Diocese closes the Asbestos Management Plan shall be kept in the Parish Office.
Farmers Environmental Services, LLC is the consultant to assist all schools in the Diocese of Belleville to comply with State and Federal rules and guidelines.
