Elementary Principal - Contracts

The term and responsibilities of office for the principal (lay or religious) should be clearly set forth in the contract form. The contract should be made in triplicate. One copy is given to the principal, one copy to the pastor, and one copy kept in the school file.

The decision to renew or not renew a principal's contract is at the discretion of the local pastor in consultation with his local board of education. (As stated in Policy 2211.7 and Regulation 2211.7.)

  • When a principal's contract will not be renewed, the pastor is to notify the principal by letter no later than March 15 preceding the expiration of the contract. The letter should also include the reasons the contract will not be renewed.
  • The principal has the responsibility to notify the pastor and local board of education in writing by March 15 if he/she does not want to renew his/her contract for the following year.
  • The principal shall return the signed copy of the contract to the pastor by April 1.
