“On this continent, too, thousands of persons are led to travel north in search of a better life for themselves and for their loved ones, in search of greater opportunities. Is this not what we want for our own children? We must not be taken aback by their numbers, but rather view them as persons, seeing their faces and listening to their stories, trying to respond as best we can to their situation; to respond in a way which is always humane, just and fraternal.
(Pope Francis addressing a joint meeting of Congress on September 24, 2015)

Office of Hispanic Ministry

Welcome

Welcome to the Catholic Diocese of Belleville Office of Hispanic Ministry web page. Here you will find details about Our Mission, Our Ministry, Educational and Advocacy Resources, as well as Our Contact information. We hope this page and its contents are helpful to you, your ministry and your personal faith journey.

Mission

The Catholic Diocese of Belleville

  • CALLS all people to be a warm and welcoming faith community for newcomers among us;
  • INVITES our Hispanic sisters and brothers to full participation in the Church;
  • ASKS  that Latinos share their gifts of culture and faith with the diocesan family.

The Office of Hispanic Ministry assists in fostering the diocesan commitment to be a welcoming church for Hispanics and in coordinating the ministry efforts to attain this vision.

Ministry

The Office of Hispanic Ministry coordinates and collaborates with parishes and diocesan agencies in their efforts to provide sacramental ministry, and to wholeheartedly welcome and involve Hispanics in the life of the local church. The office helps in networking for Latino people in need; sponsors special events for Hispanic youth; and holds leadership gatherings for Hispanic Ministry development. It stays alert, educates and advocates for just immigration reform, a position that is strongly supported by the United States Catholic Bishops.
