ADMINISTRATION-RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Process for Early Termination or Non-renewal of a Contract for a Director of Religious Education

When a Director of Religious Education violates policies of the Diocese, the local board of education, the Director of Religious Education's contract, or otherwise fails to perform designated responsibilities, the Director of Religious Education is to be informed by the pastor or his designee and given a warning in writing that his/her performance must improve within a specified length of time. A copy of this warning should be sent to the Office of Education. The needed areas of improvement must be written and clarified when given to the Director of Religious Education so that he/she clearly understand what is expected of him/her.

Grounds for termination or non-renewal of a contract shall include, but shall not be limited to: violation of accepted academic or professional standards of conduct; failure to perform duties in a satisfactory manner; lack of continuing professional growth and performance; non-observance of Diocesan and/or local board of education policies; violation of the Director of Religious Education's contract; failure to act in accordance with the doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church; or failure to provide leadership in forming the Christian educational community.

When a Director of Religious Education is dismissed during the course of a contract year, a written notice must be given to the Director of Religious Education explaining the termination and stating the reasons for dismissal. A copy of the termination letter should be sent to the pastor, the local board of education or appropriate parish committee or council, to the Office of Education and the religious community when applicable.
