ADMINISTRATION-RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Directors of Religious Education

The terms and conditions of employment for the Director of Religious Education (lay or religious) shall be clearly set forth in the contract. The duties and the responsibilities of the DRE should be clearly established and attached to the contract. A copy of the contract shall be given to the DRE, the pastor, and parish board of education or appropriate parish committee or council. When a Director of Religious Education is a member of a religious community, a copy of the contract shall also be given to the religious community.

The decision to renew or not to renew a Director of Religious Education's contract is at the discretion of the local pastor in consultation with his local board of education or appropriate parish committee or council.

  • When a Director of Religious Education's contract is not renewed, the pastor/pastors shall notify the Director of Religious Education (and, when applicable, the DRE's religious community) in writing, no later than February 15 preceding the expiration of the contract. The notification shall also include the reasons the contract is not being renewed.
  • The Director of Religious Education (when applicable, the religious community) has\ the responsibility to notify the pastor/pastors and the local board of education, or appropriate parish committee or council in writing by February 15 if he/she does not want to renew the Director of Religious Education's contract for the following year.
