ADMINISTRATION

Principals of Schools - Qualification Requirements

I. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

A. Reflects a strong basic character through:

        1. Integrity and sincerity in relations with others
        2. His or her moral conduct . . . . references required
        3. Willingness to defend values compatible with principles of Catholic Education

B. Reflects good mental and physical health evidences through:

        1. Appreciation of the worth and the integrity of every individual
        2. Ability to make decisions without undue procrastination or rationalization
        3. Medical records and references

C. Reflects understanding of the role that social amenities play in good personal relationships as evidenced through:

        1. Friendliness and approachability
        2. Discretion in grooming and dress
        3. Trustworthy and merits the confidence of co-workers

II. CHRISTIAN HERITAGE LEADERSHIP

A. Understands and is in accord with the basic Philosophy of Catholic Education

        1. Must be a practicing Catholic
        2. Must be concerned with spreading the Gospel message
        3. Is instrumental in establishing Christian Community among faculty and parish

B. Has a wide breadth of interest in areas associated with education: social, economic, aesthetic, etc.

III. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

A. Basic training:

        1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 16 semester hours in education Completion of Master's Degree in Administration
        2. State Teacher Certification as required by State Laws
        3. Compliant with the Diocese of Belleville Child Protection Policies
        4. Any exceptions must be granted by the Office of Education.

B. Experience contributing to effectiveness of supervision and administration:

        1. A minimum of four years of teaching in an elementary classroom for an elementary principal and four years of teaching in a high school classroom for a high school principal is desired. Any exceptions must be granted by the Office of Education.
        2. Additional training and growth through in-service programs.

c. Refresher Courses

C. Professional Awareness

        1. Knowledge of legislation relating to education and the teaching profession
        2. Knowledge of purposes of professional groups
        3. Participation in the NCEA
