Hispanic Diocesan Plan

Diocese of Belleville Hispanic Plan—promulgated in 2004, Revised 2017

Following the call of the U.S. Catholic bishops in their revised National Plan for Hispanic Ministry, published in December of 2002, each diocese was urged to develop a plan and strategies for responding to the gift of the Hispanic presence among them. After a collaborative process, the diocesan plan for the Diocese of Belleville was promulgated in 2004. It has been revised, after consultation with leaders that serve in Hispanic ministry and the bishop. The revision was completed and signed by the Bishop of Belleville, Edward K. Braxton, on March 5, 2017, the First Sunday of Lent.  It is available here in English and Spanish.

Oficina de Ministerio Hispano - Office of Hispanic Ministry

USCCB President, Vice President And Committee Chairmen Denounce Administration’s Decision To End DACA And Strongly Urge Congress To Find Legislative Solution

“The Church has recognized and proclaimed the need to welcome young people: 'Whoever welcomes one of these children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me' (Mark 9:37)… DACA youth are woven into the fabric of our country and of our Church, and are, by every social and human measure, American youth.

As people of faith, we say to DACA youth – regardless of your immigration status, you are children of God and welcome in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church supports you and will advocate for you."

"Members of Hispanic communities are present in more and more of our parishes. These brothers and sisters in Christ bring to our Diocese unique histories and cultures from their country of origin as well as a long history of dedication to the Catholic Church. They are an example to us all of what it means to learn your faith, love your faith, and live your faith, even in the face of challenging circumstances. Our Hispanic neighbors remind each of us that the human family and the Catholic Church family are much larger and much richer than the family of our relatives, our friends, and our neighbors of many years. We are committed to welcoming and extending a hand of support to each individual and to each family that chooses to live, work, and pray in the various communities of southern Illinois."
"All Are Welcome:" Hispanic Ministry in Southern Illinois - an update to the 2004 Diocesan Pastoral Plan
Bishop Edward K. Braxton, 2017
