Marriage Preparation

Because Christian Marriage is a sacrament, the Catholic Church wants couples to be well-prepared. Parishes offer marriage preparation to help couples develop a better understanding of the sacrament; to evaluate and deepen their readiness to live married life; and to gain insights into themselves as individuals and as a couple.

The important thing for engaged couples to keep in mind as they check numerous items off their pre-wedding "to do" list is the well-known adage, "Your wedding lasts a day, but your marriage lasts a lifetime." The Church encourages couples to invest time and energy into the all-important work of preparing for their married life together.

For couples planning to marry in the Catholic Church, please contact your parish priest six to nine months before your anticipated wedding date to begin the marriage preparation process.

and support Parish Lay Ecclesial Ministers in their efforts to renew, to revitalize,

and to strengthen our parishes.

Being a part of the "Into My Vineyard" has been a very eye-opening experience.  The enriching speakers and formal presenters have gifted me with knowledgeable information about my faith and the realization of the needs of not only my parish, but neighboring parishes.  I am looking forward to using the information I have gained to better and grow our Catholic community.

Welcome

The Department of Pastoral Services serves as one of five departments in the administrative structure of the Diocese of Belleville.  It is comprised of six ministries: the Office of Worship, Hispanic Ministry, Respect Life Ministry, Marriage Preparation, Prison Ministry and The Messenger. These ministries support the parishes and institutions of the Diocese of Belleville by offering a variety of services, celebrations and resources. The members of the Department of Pastoral Services continue the ministry and mission of Jesus through their care for individuals from all walks of life. This website is provided as an extension of their ministries. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you. We appreciate your prayers and support. May this website be a blessing to you as you serve God and His people.
